Historical Aspect

Throughout the history of America, black individuals have been victims of  racist act. Such as slavery, lynching, racist beatings, and segregation under the Jim Crow law.  In which some continue to happen today. As the author of the novel Between the World and Me,  Ta-Neshisi Coates mentions  “Never forget that we were enslaved in this country longer than we have been free”.(70)

Society's Perception of the Black Community


What do you see?
In America today, history would show us that there has always been a struggle in the black community to be on par with the white Americans in social, political, and economic terms. The social injustices that we see today are because of the racism and discrimination that has been embedded deep in this country's identity.

People in Honduras who are descendants of slaves, who live on the beach, and have lived on the beach for years now, are being forced to move from their homes into places of poverty. While migrating, they are often victims of fatal experiences.

Yunek Moore 



Yunek Moore told her story as a survivor of police brutality. As she attended a bonfire, she was one of the few Black individuals who were victims of her local police department. Police officers violently arrested Moore and charged her with "obstructing a peace officer."

Teenagers are seen taking a stand against racist police brutality in memory of victims such as Renisha McBride, Eric Garner, and Prince Jones.

“...The law has become an excuse for stopping and frisking you, which is to say, for furthering the assault on your body.” (Coates 17)

Social Problems Continue





Slavery began in the year 1619, when the first African Americans arrived in Jamestown, Virginia.
